Overview

Payoneer is a New York–listed cross-border payments company (Nasdaq: PAYO) founded in 2005. For marketplace sellers it is the account that sits between Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Wish, Lazada and similar platforms and a local bank: you add Payoneer’s local receiving details in Seller Central, the marketplace pays out as a domestic transfer, and you hold, convert, spend, or withdraw from one balance.

It is built for sellers who need a payout rail that marketplaces already recognise, not a full-stack corporate treasury. Official pages list coverage in 190+ countries and territories, 70+ currencies, and receiving-account details in 13 currencies. Direct marketplace integrations are the main reason it still shows up in Amazon and freelancer communities; FX markup and compliance holds are the reasons many mid-size teams later add a second provider.

The next step is the official signup at payoneer.com: complete KYC before you switch a live store’s deposit method, then compare the in-account fee quote against a same-day withdrawal from PingPong, WorldFirst, or Airwallex.

Core features and advantages

Marketplace receiving accounts

Payoneer issues local account details in the currencies Amazon and other platforms actually pay — USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY and others. You paste those details into Seller Central instead of opening a bank in every sales country. Official seller pages also list eBay, Walmart, Wish and Lazada among connected channels, with a broader directory of 2,000+ marketplaces, platforms and networks. Payout timing still follows the marketplace’s own cycle (often 7–14 days); once the platform sends funds they typically land in Payoneer within one to two business days.

Multi-currency balances and FX

Earnings can sit in multiple currency wallets. Internal conversion between those wallets is published at 0.5% of the amount transferred (official pricing page, last updated 1 January 2026). That is useful when European proceeds need to pay a USD supplier, but it is not “mid-market for free”: the 0.5% is a stated fee, and cross-currency bank withdrawals are a separate, higher band. Target-rate conversion is available so a seller can wait for a level instead of converting on payout day.

Withdrawals, cards, and supplier payouts

Same-country, same-currency withdrawals to a local bank in supported markets are listed at a flat 1.50 USD / EUR / GBP (with a higher percentage once monthly volume crosses a published threshold around 50,000 in that currency). Cross-currency or international withdrawals are percentage-based. Physical and virtual Mastercard corporate cards can pay ads, suppliers, and ATM cash; the first physical card carries a published annual fee. Batch and single payments go to 190+ countries, which matters when the same account that collects Amazon US also needs to pay a factory or a 3PL.

Working capital (eligibility-based)

Capital Advance is offered against Payoneer transaction history, not a traditional credit file. Official marketing cites offers up to a share of monthly marketplace payouts, with funds landing in the Payoneer balance. It is optional, underwritten, and should be treated as short-term cash, not a substitute for a cheaper collection route.

Supported platforms

Official ecommerce pages name Amazon (including USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, JPY receiving details), eBay, Walmart, Wish and Lazada, plus hundreds of other marketplaces and freelance networks. Checkout for a DTC / Shopify store is a separate product and is not a drop-in replacement for Shopify Payments in every country — Payoneer’s own Shopify guide says a third-party gateway may be required. VAT payments to some UK and EU authorities can be made from the balance. Feature and corridor availability is jurisdiction-specific; confirm the live receiving-account list inside the account before you migrate a store.

Who it's for

  • Solo and small marketplace sellers who need Amazon or eBay to pay a local-looking account without incorporating overseas.
  • Multi-site teams that want one login for several Amazon stores and mixed USD / EUR / GBP balances.
  • Sellers who also pay suppliers or ads from the same wallet, including card spend on Meta, Google and TikTok where the card is accepted.
  • Skip it if you only need cheap USD→CNY settlement for a China-entity store — WorldFirst and PingPong are usually the comparison set — or if you want a full multi-entity treasury with local rails and spend controls (Airwallex). Freelancers on Upwork or Fiverr are a fit; that is a different job from running FBA.

Concrete use case: a Vietnam- or India-based Amazon seller assigns Payoneer’s USD receiving account to amazon.com, lets weekly disbursements land as a US ACH-style credit, holds USD to pay a Guangzhou supplier, and withdraws the remainder to a local bank. The cost that matters is the stacked receiving + FX + withdrawal quote on that corridor, not the “free account” headline.

Pricing and value

Payoneer does not sell named monthly plans. The public pricing page (last updated 1 January 2026) is transaction-based and states that exact fees depend on corridor, method and account type. Published headlines include:

  • Receive from another Payoneer customer: free
  • Receive via a local-currency receiving account: free
  • Receive via a non-local-currency receiving account: 1% (minimum 1.00 USD or equivalent)
  • Marketplace and integrated-platform payouts: varies by marketplace
  • Card receipts: up to 3.99% + 0.49 USD
  • Internal FX between balances: 0.50%
  • Same-country local-currency bank withdrawal (supported countries): 1.50 USD / EUR / GBP typical published rate
  • Cross-currency withdrawal: percentage-based (community reports and third-party roundups often cite a 1.2%–4% band; the live quote in the withdrawal dialog is the only number that counts)
  • Annual account fee: may apply if activity stays below a disclosed 12-month threshold; details are shown at registration and in-account
  • First physical card: published annual fee (commonly 29.95 USD on older public tables — confirm in-account)

Custom pricing is offered above roughly 50,000 USD monthly volume. Never treat a blog “all-in 1%” as current: receiving, FX and withdrawal are separate lines and can stack.

Community feedback

Seller and freelancer forums treat Payoneer as the default marketplace payout brand and as a compliance risk at the same time. Trustpilot and Reddit threads in 2025–2026 repeatedly describe KYC reviews that freeze a balance while Amazon has already sent funds, slow support after an account is closed, and effective costs above the $1.50 headline when the withdrawal is cross-currency. Positive reports focus on “Amazon already knows this account” and same-currency withdrawals that beat a retail SWIFT. G2 scores sit in the mid-3s; that is consistent with a product people keep because platforms require it, not because support is loved. Do not keep idle operating cash on the wallet.

Competitive positioning

Payoneer’s edge is marketplace coverage and a public, itemised fee table. PingPong and WorldFirst compete harder on China-entity RMB settlement and promotional collection rates. Airwallex is a broader business account (local rails, cards, checkout) with region-specific plans rather than a marketplace-first payout wallet. For a store that must stay payable on Amazon next week, Payoneer is often the path of least resistance. For a store whose main cost is USD→CNY, run a same-day quote against the other three before you standardise.

Alternatives

Limitations

Marketplace receiving fees are not one number. Cross-currency withdrawals can dwarf the $1.50 local fee. Account reviews can interrupt cash flow with little usable evidence for Amazon or your bank. Capital Advance and cards add cost layers. Payoneer is a payments platform, not a bank with deposit insurance in every market. Shopify Payments does not always pay it directly.

Verdict

Use Payoneer when a marketplace needs a local receiving account you can open without a foreign company, and when you will withdraw same-currency or pay suppliers from the balance. Price every corridor in the dashboard on the day you move a store. If RMB settlement, Alipay withdrawal, or a full multi-currency operating account is the real job, compare PingPong, WorldFirst and Airwallex on the same invoices. Open an account at payoneer.com and complete KYC before you replace a working deposit method.
