Overview

Airwallex (空中云汇 in Greater China) is a Melbourne-founded (2015) business-payments platform, now dual-headquartered and used as a multi-currency operating account rather than a pure marketplace wallet. Sellers open Global Accounts with local bank details in 20+ currencies, assign them in Amazon or other platforms, hold balances, convert at a published markup, and pay suppliers, 3PLs or ad accounts on local rails.

Official global pages (2026) cite 200,000+ businesses, local collection in 70+ countries, local payouts to 120+ countries, and on the order of US$280bn+ payments processed annually — first-party figures. The product also includes corporate cards, spend controls, and checkout plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento. That breadth is the point: it is closer to a neobank plus acquiring stack than to Payoneer’s payout wallet.

“Zero fee collections” is not a universal list price. Some currencies and some jurisdictions charge a receiving fee; FX and SWIFT are extra. Sign up on the regional official site, finish KYC for the legal entity that owns the store, then compare a live FX and payout quote with Payoneer, PingPong and WorldFirst.

Core features and advantages

Global Accounts for marketplace payouts

You get local account details (for example USD ACH/ABA, EUR IBAN, GBP sort code) and paste them into Amazon Seller Central as the deposit method, the same way you would with Payoneer. Same-currency in and same-currency hold avoids a forced marketplace conversion. Coverage is 20+ currencies to collect and hold; the exact list depends on the entity’s country of incorporation. An Amazon seller who keeps EUR proceeds in EUR and pays a EU warehouse in EUR is the intended loop.

FX and transfers

Published US fee-schedule language (updated 17 August 2026, parts effective September–October 2026) lists a 0.50% markup on major pairs (USD, EUR, GBP, CNY, JPY, AUD, CAD, HKD, SGD and similar) and 1.00% on others. Other regions advertise “from 0.2%” or “interbank” — always open the regional fee schedule. Local-rail payouts to 120+ countries are often free or a small flat amount; SWIFT is a separate $15–$25-class fee on the US table. Company pages claim ~93% same-day settlement on local rails.

Cards, spend, and checkout

Visa/Mastercard corporate cards can pay Meta, Google and TikTok ads and supplier invoices, with region-specific cashback promotions that change. Spend tools (approvals, bills, extra users) sit on paid plans in many countries. Checkout and payment links are for DTC stores, not for collecting Amazon FBA disbursements. Yield on idle USD/EUR/GBP is offered via Airwallex Capital in some entities and is an investment product, not a savings account.

Supported platforms

Sellers commonly bind Global Accounts to Amazon, eBay and similar marketplaces as a bank deposit method. Official integration lists also mention Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, and accounting sync to Xero, QuickBooks and (on higher plans) NetSuite. Local payment methods for acquiring include WeChat Pay, Alipay and 160+ APMs — that is checkout, not FBA collection. Feature availability splits by entity: China-mainland Explore can hold 20+ currencies, but Yield, Spend and acquiring notes on the CN pricing page are marked as not for China-mainland entities.

Who it's for

  • DTC and multi-channel brands that collect marketplace payouts and also need cards, supplier payouts and store checkout in one login.
  • Mid-size teams with a Hong Kong, Singapore, US, UK or AU company that can pass KYC and wants local rails instead of SWIFT.
  • Skip it as the only FBA rail if you are a China-mainland individual seller whose only job is USD→CNY to Alipay — WorldFirst and PingPong are the usual comparison. Skip paid Grow/Accelerate until you actually need approvals and a dedicated manager.

Concrete use case: a Hong Kong company selling on Amazon US and Shopify EU assigns Airwallex USD and EUR accounts as deposit methods, converts a slice of USD to CNY to pay a factory on local rails, and puts ad spend on the corporate card. The cost to watch is FX markup plus any inbound receiving fee on non-linked transfers — not a homepage slogan.

Pricing and value

Plans and transaction fees are region-specific. Rechecked 2026-09-06:

  • US: Explore $0/month; Grow $12 per spend user/month plus a platform fee; Accelerate custom. US fee schedule: major FX 0.50%, other FX 1.00%; Global Account receiving 0% for most currencies, with named exceptions (for example 0.60% KRW/VND/BRL/MYR, 0.30% PHP, $15 Fedwire on that table).
  • Hong Kong: Explore free; Grow HKD 499/month; Accelerate from HKD 2,499/month (third-party 2026 summaries; confirm on airwallex.com HK pricing). Inbound 0.3% on some non-linked receipts has been reported as dashboard-only — check in-account.
  • China site (airwallex.com/cn/pricing): Explore free; Grow not launched on the mainland; Accelerate from ¥2,499/month. FX, transfers and acquiring are extra. Yield/Spend/acquiring footnotes exclude China-mainland entities.
  • Australia / UK / SG: Explore may carry a monthly fee unless a deposit or balance waiver is met; Grow and Accelerate are paid.

Card cashback (older campaigns quoted up to 1.6%; 2026 pages show other percentages) is promotional. Do not put “收款 0 费率” in a cost model without the fee schedule for your entity.

Community feedback

G2 scores for Airwallex sit well above Payoneer’s, with praise for FX versus banks and for turning card issuance into a self-serve flow. Independent 2026 reviews (including competitor write-ups) flag a receiving fee that does not always appear on the marketing pricing page, slow or document-heavy KYC, and the need for a paid plan before multi-user approvals. English Reddit volume is moderate. Chinese seller forums still treat it as a stronger fit for HK/SG entities and independent stores than for a first Amazon collection account.

Competitive positioning

Airwallex is the “operating account” in this set. Payoneer is the marketplace payout wallet with a public fee table. PingPong and WorldFirst are the China-entity collection specialists (RMB, Alipay, FBA-centric extras). If the job is only to get Amazon USD into a Chinese corporate card, price WorldFirst and PingPong first. If the job is Amazon + Shopify + ads + factory payouts under one entity, Airwallex is the one that is designed for that stack.

Alternatives

Limitations

Pricing and receiving fees change by country and are easy to misread from a global homepage. China-mainland entities do not get the full Spend/Yield/acquiring set advertised on CN pages. KYC can delay the first Amazon disbursement. It is not a bank in every market. Promotional card cashback is not a collection rate. Onboarding a mainland individual to a product meant for a HK company is a common failed path.

Verdict

Use Airwallex when you need a multi-currency business account that can collect marketplace payouts and also pay, spend and (if eligible) check out. Verify the fee schedule for your entity country — especially inbound receiving and FX — before you treat collection as free. For China-entity FBA-only settlement, compare WorldFirst and PingPong on the same invoices. Next step: airwallex.com/global (China: airwallex.com/cn, Japan: airwallex.com/jp).

Data notes

Rechecked 2026-09-06 against airwallex.com/global, airwallex.com/cn/pricing, airwallex.com/cn/who-we-are, and the US fee schedule (17 August 2026). monthlyVisits (12000), domainRating and authorityScore are inherited catalog figures and unverified. Customer and payment-volume totals are first-party. Inbound 0% is not universal. Old “collections 0 fee, card cashback up to 1.6%” slogans were marketing, not a current global tariff.
