Overview
17TRACK is a package-tracking aggregator, not a carrier. Cross-border sellers use it when a single order hops from a China-origin line (YunExpress, 4PX, China Post, Cainiao) onto a last-mile network such as USPS, DHL, FedEx, or a local post, and neither the store nor the buyer wants to open five carrier sites. The public site and free mobile app auto-detect most numbers; the seller-facing products sit on 17track.com: a Shopify order-tracking app, a bulk dashboard, and an HTTP tracking API with webhooks.
The company launched in July 2010. The name is a pun on the Chinese phrase “track all together.” Dianxiaomi acquired it in 2021. The official site currently lists 3,500-plus carriers, 190-plus airlines, 33-plus languages, 15 million-plus registered users, and more than 12 billion parcels tracked. Treat those as first-party claims, not audited traffic.
For a seller, the useful split is three products. The public tracker is free and ad-supported, which is why some buyers mistake banner ads for official “Track now” buttons. The Shopify app is a post-purchase page with emails, estimated delivery dates, and a dropshipping mode that can hide China-origin labels. The API is a prepaid annual quota for ERPs, 3PLs, and payment-risk teams. If you only need to look up a handful of numbers a day, stay on the free site. If customer-service tickets start with “where is my order,” move to the app or API.
Core features and advantages
Unified multi-carrier lookup
Paste a number, let the system guess the carrier (it claims auto-identification on 80% of numbers), and read a normalised timeline. That matters on China-to-US or China-to-EU parcels, where the export scan, the flight, commercial clearance, and the last-mile scan live on different systems. 17TRACK maps events into 9 main statuses plus 27 sub-statuses, which is enough for a CS agent to tell “still in Shenzhen hub” from “held at destination customs.” It is not a substitute for the carrier’s own exception desk.
Shopify post-purchase tracking
The Shopify app (Built for Shopify badge, October 2024) syncs orders, hosts a branded tracking page, sends shipping emails, and can redirect tracking numbers. Dropshipping mode hides Chinese carrier names on the buyer-facing page — a common request from independent stores that source in China and sell in the US or EU. Estimated delivery date, multilingual pages, and product-recommendation widgets sit on paid tiers. A 2026 Shopify review also notes a 180-day order-sync window; older warranty or return lookups have to move to the separate 17RETURNS product.
Tracking API and webhooks
Register a number once; quota is consumed on register, not on later polls. 17TRACK then pushes updates to your webhook until delivery. Official API packs (12-month validity, listed on 17track.net/en/api) run from Basic at $119 for 5,000 quota ($0.0238 per register) through Advanced $569 / 25,000, Pro $2,869 / 150,000, and Flagship $9,299 / 500,000, plus a custom tier. A free trial is offered without a credit card. The API is asynchronous — the vendor itself says it is a poor fit for a live storefront widget. USPS lookups are currently throttled; check the in-product USPS notice before you size a US-heavy integration.
Batch tracking for customer service
CS teams can import lists, watch exceptions, and keep a shared history instead of logging into YunExpress, USPS, and Deutsche Post separately. That is the concrete seller use case: a 200-order/day Amazon FBM or Shopify store where 15% of tickets are WISMO. One inbox, one status vocabulary, fewer “please wait for the next scan” replies.
Supported platforms
The public tracker is carrier-agnostic: China Post, YunExpress, 4PX, DHL, FedEx, UPS, USPS, Royal Mail, DPD, and thousands of regional last-mile names, plus air-waybill lookup for cargo. Marketplace-side, the site indexes tracking pages for Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, SHEIN, Wish, DHgate, Etsy, Lazada, Shopee, Walmart, and others — that is lookup, not native seller integration.
Native seller integrations that are documented: Shopify app (and Shopify Flow), PayPal, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Trustpilot, Judge.me, Loox. WooCommerce, Amazon Seller Central, and most China ERPs are not first-class apps; those teams use the API or CSV. Confirm current connector list in the 17TRACK help center before you promise a channel.
Who it's for
- Solo and small Shopify or independent-store sellers who need a branded tracking page and WISMO emails without building one.
- China-origin FBM / dropship operations whose buyers sit in the US, UK, and EU and whose numbers jump carriers mid-route.
- Mid-size ops and 3PL / SaaS teams that will register tens of thousands of numbers a year via API.
- Skip it if you only ship domestic USPS/UPS from one origin — the carrier’s own tools plus Shopify’s Shop app are enough. Skip the API if you cannot host a webhook and store results yourself.
Pricing and value
Public web and mobile tracking remain free (ad-supported). Shopify App Store plans checked on 2026-09-06:
- Free: 50 shipments/month, 3,300-plus carriers, branded page, PayPal, dropshipping mode.
- Basic: $9/month or $86/year, 200 shipments, email notifications, basic analytics.
- Pro: $49/month or $470/year, 1,000 shipments, multilingual pages, remove 17TRACK branding, EDD.
- Premium: $159/month or $1,526/year, 2,000 shipments, transit-time and exception analytics, custom email triggers.
Annual billing is listed as about 20% off. API quota is prepaid for 12 months and unused quota expires — that is the main cost trap versus monthly AfterShip-style billing. Confirm live prices on apps.shopify.com/17track and 17track.net/en/api; do not treat this page as a quote.
Community feedback
On Reddit, 17TRACK is the default lookup for China-origin parcels (DHGate, agent-shopping, AliExpress). Users repeatedly warn that the website is legitimate but ad-heavy: fake “Track now” buttons on 17track.net have caused “scam” threads on r/Etsy. Home Assistant users reported in 2026 that the free API tier was tightened or removed, which matches the vendor’s paid-quota model.
The Shopify app scores 4.9 from 4,200-plus reviews, with praise for setup and support agents. Counter-signal: an November 2025 r/shopify post described a broken tracking page, slow support, and a 72-hour refund window. Another 2026 review flagged the 180-day sync limit. Weight the App Store rating as “works for most stores,” not “zero support risk.”
Competitive positioning
17TRACK’s edge is China-line coverage plus a huge consumer brand, so buyers already know the URL. AfterShip and TrackingMore are stronger as branded post-purchase suites with monthly SaaS billing. TRACK718 is a closer China-market tracker. Easyship and YunExpress are not trackers — they create the labels and move the boxes; 17TRACK only reports what those networks publish.
Alternatives
- TRACK718 — another global tracking aggregator aimed at bulk seller lookup.
- Easyship — buy and print multi-carrier labels, then track from the same shipping desk.
- YunExpress — China-origin dedicated-line carrier; use 17TRACK to follow YT numbers, not to replace the line.
Limitations
It does not move freight, file customs, or pay claims. Tracking quality is only as good as the carrier feed; China-export and destination-customs gaps are common. The free site’s ads confuse buyers. API quota is annual and prepaid. USPS request limits apply in 2026. Shopify order history is not a full OMS. 17TRACK cannot tell you why a YunExpress bag is sitting in Dongguan — only that the last scan said so.
Verdict
Use the free tracker for ad-hoc lookup. Put the Shopify app on a China-sourced store once WISMO tickets are a real cost. Graduate to the API when an ERP or CS tool needs webhooks. Next step: track a live number on 17track.net, then open the Shopify listing or API trial if you outgrow the public box.
Data notes
Rechecked 2026-09-06 against 17track.net (home, about, API), 17track.com, the Shopify App Store listing, and public Reddit threads. Carrier counts, user counts, and “12 billion parcels” are vendor claims. monthlyVisits 10500, domainRating 53, and authorityScore 48 are legacy directory figures and unverified. Shopify and API list prices were taken from official pages on this date and can change. Founding month is July 2010 per the about page; day-of-month is unverified.
