Overview
n9.cl is a free URL shortener run by an independent team in Chile (footer copyright 2016–2026; terms say Chilean law applies). Cross-border sellers do not come here for a Bitly clone. They come because you can set a custom alias without signing up, turn a store or ad URL into https://n9.cl/your-offer, and get a QR code in the same flow. Language versions include English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese. Marketing copy names Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, and email.
The cost of “free” is in the terms, not the hero. Link Free is an optional one-time payment that permanently removes captcha, advertising, and interstitial interruption from one short link. The base price is USD $1.58; tax can change the total, and the price in force at payment applies. If a single link sees about 100 visits in a short period, the system may flag a spam campaign and restrict that link. The FAQ lists click counts, geography, device type, and referrer. Useful for comparing the same alias in an Instagram bio versus email. These are the shortener’s own stats, not Meta pixels or Google Ads conversions. Do not reconcile n9 reports against ad spend.
API and Link Free
The footer has long linked to an API. Older docs marked POST /api/short deprecated, sent keys to app.shorten.cl, and listed a daily free call cap plus errors such as blacklist, limit, and unavailable (contact contacto@n9.cl). On 2026-09-06, https://n9.cl/api returned 404. Re-test before you integrate. Link Free only strips captcha/ads on that one link. It is not an SLA. Abuse can still take down the link or the whole destination domain, with no refund.
Supported platforms
n9.cl shortens arbitrary http(s) URLs. It is not an Amazon or Shopify app. Copy targets social and ads character limits, not Seller Central. Many locale paths exist (/en-us, /zh, /es, …). There is no first-party walkthrough for attaching the seller’s own short domain; “branded” here mostly means a custom slug on n9.cl.

API free quotas and paid API tiers were not verifiable in a live doc on 2026-09-06. For a seller, $1.58 buys a cleaner hop on one URL, not brand trust. Once ad spend is in four figures, put the money on a domain you control.
Community feedback
r/FulfillmentByAmazon and r/Shopify barely mention n9.cl as an ops tool. What we can verify is first-party: Chile-based team, contacto@n9.cl, captcha/ads, and the 100-visit rule. No substantial 雨果网 or Zhihu reviews turned up. Calling it a “clean free shortener” contradicts the terms.
Competitive positioning
The wedge is custom aliases without signup, plus a cheap per-link ad/captcha removal. ShortURL is even lower-friction paste-and-go, but free links can die after a month of zero clicks. Bitly, Rebrandly, and Cuttly sell branded domains and seats and clear ad review more often. TinyURL is another anonymous custom-back-half option. Chinese tools such as 毛驴短链 add geo/device routing that n9.cl does not document. The .cl hostname can also look unfamiliar to US/EU shoppers.
