Overview
Keepa is an Amazon-only price and listing-history tracker. Cross-border sellers use it to see whether an ASIN’s price, Best Seller Rank (BSR), Buy Box, and offer mix have been stable — or whether today’s screenshot is a holiday spike, a lightning deal, or Amazon coming back in stock. The browser extension overlays charts on Amazon product pages; the website adds Product Finder, Product Viewer, deals, seller lookup, and tracking alerts.
It is not an ERP, keyword suite, or repricer. The job is historical marketplace data: Amazon, third-party New/Used, FBA and FBM offers, Warehouse Deals, review counts, and (on paid data) sales rank and Buy Box statistics. Shoppers use the free graph to wait for a drop. Sellers who source, wholesale, or defend a listing need the paid history, because a “good” current price with a collapsing BSR is a different business.
Keepa covers the Amazon locales shown on keepa.com, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, and India. Coverage is not universal: seller threads note that marketplaces such as Amazon.ae are outside Keepa’s chart set, so Buy Box rotation there has to be watched by hand.
Core features and advantages
Price history, BSR, and FBA fee context
The chart is the product. On a listing you can toggle Amazon price, Buy Box, New 3rd-party FBA/FBM, used/warehouse, list price, and (with Keepa Pro) sales rank. That is how you tell a durable wholesale ASIN from a coupon-driven spike. Product records and Product Finder filters also expose FBA pick-and-pack fee fields (fbaFees in the API/Finder), which is useful as a first-pass size-tier check — not a full landed-cost model. Pair Keepa with Amazon’s Revenue Calculator before you buy inventory.
Buy Box, stock, and seller lookup
Buy Box statistics show who held the cart and at what price. If the brand or Amazon has held 100% of the Buy Box for 30 days, adding another FBA offer often means storage fees and no sales. Offer counts, out-of-stock gaps, and seller lookup/storefront lists are the usual OA and wholesale workflow: confirm the dip is real, check that rank is consistent, then decide whether FBA sellers already on the listing are making money.
Keepa API and tracking
The Keepa API (https://api.keepa.com/) returns JSON for price histories, offers, deals, best-seller lists, seller objects, and tracking notifications. Access is a prepaid token-bucket plan, separate from Keepa Pro: unused tokens expire after 60 minutes; a basic product request costs one token per ASIN (offer pages cost extra). Official Java and PHP clients exist; there is a community Python client and a hosted MCP server for assistants. Token rates and euro prices are set on the in-account API page, not in a public catalog table.
Supported platforms
Keepa is Amazon-only. It is not a Shopify, eBay, or Walmart tracker. Use the locale switcher (or the API domain parameter) for each Amazon store. Browser extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera; there is also a mobile app. Data freshness is generally minutes on popular ASINs, longer on long-tail SKUs.
Who it's for
- Solo / small teams doing online arbitrage, wholesale, or Japan/US/EU sourcing: Keepa Pro is the usual first paid data tool.
- Mid-size and brand sellers watching Buy Box share, Amazon stock-outs, and competitor price cuts on their own ASINs.
- Developers and agencies who need historical Amazon data in a repricer, dashboard, or research script via the API.
- Skip it if you do not sell on Amazon, if you only need a US consumer price watch (camelcamelcamel is enough), or if you expected keyword, PPC, or inventory software.
Concrete use case: before sending a 200-unit FBA shipment on a shared listing, open Keepa, confirm BSR is not a one-week spike, check Buy Box share is not locked to the brand, and compare the current offer to the 90-day New FBA range. If Amazon regularly undercuts the cart, model a lower share of voice — or walk away.
Pricing and value
Keepa is freemium. Charts, basic drop alerts, and international price comparison work without paying. Keepa Pro is listed at 29 € per month on keepa.com (verified 2026-09-06). Annual billing is widely described as 290 € per year (about 10 months for 12); confirm the current annual option on the Keepa account settings page before you subscribe. Pro unlocks sales rank, Buy Box stats, Product Finder/Viewer, seller lookup, expanded tracking (up to 10,000 products), and a daily data quota that refills about 5% per hour.
The API is a separate prepaid subscription. Official docs explain tokens, not a public euro price list; third-party roundups often quote a starter around €49/month for 20 tokens per minute. Check keepa.com/#!api for live API rates. Keepa bills in euros via Stripe.
For most FBA sellers the Pro fee is cheap relative to one bad inventory buy. The API is only worth it if you actually consume tokens in software.
Community feedback
On r/AmazonFBA and r/FulfillmentByAmazon, Keepa is treated as near-mandatory for sourcing. Typical comments: the free graph is “just a chart”; Pro’s BSR and Buy Box history is what stops a 10–20 unit buy that later drops $10–15. OA sellers complain that reading every Keepa tab is slow, and that Keepa plus a deal analyzer still does not replace ungating or invoice work. UAE wholesale threads note the missing .ae marketplace. The UI is functional, not pretty; support is email (info@keepa.com) and discuss.keepa.com rather than live chat.
Competitive positioning
Keepa’s moat is multi-year Amazon history. Helium 10, Jungle Scout, and SellerAmp estimate sales and help with keywords; they do not replace Keepa’s chart. camelcamelcamel is a simpler US consumer tracker. Amazon’s own page shows only the current offer. Google Trends is category demand, not ASIN price.
Alternatives
- camelcamelcamel — lighter Amazon US price watches and drop alerts.
- Amazon — Seller Central, FBA fees, and the live catalog Keepa charts against.
- Google Trends — search-interest trends when you need demand context, not ASIN history.
Limitations
Keepa does not calculate your margin, TACOS, or reimbursement claims. Quota throttles bulk Product Viewer work. API tokens expire if unused. Not every Amazon marketplace is tracked. BSR is a rank, not unit sales. Fee fields are estimates; always re-check in Seller Central. The product is Amazon-only.
Verdict
If you source or price on Amazon, install the extension and, for any regular FBA/wholesale workflow, pay for Keepa Pro. Use the API only when you are building on top of the data. If you need keywords, ads, or warehouse ops, add other tools — Keepa will not do that job.
Next step: open keepa.com, add the browser extension, and review Keepa Pro on the in-site subscription page if you need BSR and Buy Box history.
Data notes
Rechecked 2026-09-06 against keepa.com (Pro listed at 29 €/month), Keepa API docs, and seller threads on Reddit. published (2024-03-15), monthlyVisits, domainRating, and authorityScore are catalog placeholders and unverified. Annual Pro price and API euro tiers should be confirmed in-account. Exact founding day of the Keepa product is unverified (service widely dated to 2011; Keepa GmbH is a German company).
