Overview
The Home Depot is the world’s largest home-improvement retailer — more than 2,300 stores in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, plus homedepot.com (corporate About page, 2026). This entry is for vendors, not DIY shoppers. There is no Amazon-style self-serve seller account. If you want a SKU in stores or on the site, you apply as a supplier. Official door for U.S. merchandise that is not already under contract: the New Product Submission site. The Merchant Team is supposed to respond within 60 days. After that come Supplier Hub paperwork, EDI, insurance, labeling, and (if they want you) a first PO into a distribution center or a dropship connection.
That is a 1P / 2P vendor model: Home Depot owns the customer relationship. Dropship exists — the application asks whether you can drop ship — but you are still a Home Depot supplier, not a random 3P hanging a listing. Some integrators advertised a “3P marketplace” on a 2026 roadmap; Home Depot’s own prospective-supplier pages do not offer an open Marketplace signup. Do not treat blog posts as an application URL.
Founded in 1978, headquartered in Atlanta. Pro (contractor) demand is as important as weekend DIY. Tools, building materials, outdoor, storage, and décor that survive a jobsite or a big-box DC are the fit. White-label phone cases are not.
Core features and advantages
New Product Submission and Supplier Hub
Prospective U.S. store / homedepot.com suppliers start at New Product Submission, not Investor Relations. You typically submit up to five products: description, department/class, country of origin, image. Pricing can wait. If a merchant replies, onboarding moves to Supplier Hub (registration, certificates, item data). Existing suppliers add items through internal item tools (IDM / related systems), not by re-applying as a stranger.
Non-merchandise (fixtures, IT, janitorial, logistics, marketing services) is a different inbox: template to potential_suppliers@homedepot.com, retry after 90 days if there is no reply. Small and diverse firms can also look at the Supplier Pipeline on Home Depot’s corporate responsibility pages.
Dropship versus DC / store
Two fulfillment stories, both vendor:
- Stock / special order into the DC network: EDI (POs, ASNs, invoices), appointments, Home Depot packaging and routing guides, product compliance (UL/ETL, Prop 65, CARB, EPA as the category requires).
- Dropship (2P): you ship to the customer (or, in some programs, toward store pickup) on Home Depot’s promise dates. Chinese seller media (雨果网) has described 2026 dropship onboarding moving toward more standardized payment, returns, and systems (Mirakl / DSCO mentions). Those are community reports of emails and portals, not a public rate card. Confirm IBX, payment terms, and return-destroy rules in the contract and Supplier Hub.
Pro, stores, and .com as one pitch
The reason brands endure EDI is the orange box plus Pro. A listing that can be sold in-store, reserved for BOPIS, or shown to contractors is a different demand surface than Amazon search. Installation services and Pro desks are Home Depot’s, not yours. You still need GS1 identity, liability insurance, and content that survives a 105,000 sq ft store and a million-SKU website.
Supported platforms
Consumers: homedepot.com, the app, and stores in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Sellers: New Product Submission, Supplier Hub, Supplier Pipeline, EDI/dropship partners. Not Amazon Seller Central, not Walmart Marketplace, not Wayfair Partner Home. Canada / Mexico buying is not automatically the U.S. vendor number.
Who it's for
- Manufacturers and brand owners in tools, hardware, outdoor, storage, paint-adjacent, and building products who can pass compliance and DC or dropship SLAs.
- Mid-size U.S. vendors adding .com dropship before chasing endcaps.
- Enterprises already on EDI who want more items through IDM.
- Skip it: uncertified electrical gadgets, FBA-only sellers hoping to “also list on Home Depot,” factories that cannot dropship from North America or inject a DC.
Concrete use case: a Taiwan outdoor-storage brand with UL-relevant files and a California 3PL submits five SKUs in New Product Submission, waits the 60-day window, then prices carton dimensions against DC inbound and a dropship promise date. If the only plan is China-direct to a homeowner in five weeks, stop.
Pricing and value
No public 3P commission menu. You sell to Home Depot (or dropship at Home Depot’s retail price under vendor terms). Margin is negotiated cost, promo, damage, and chargebacks — plus EDI VAN and insurance. 雨果网 has cited dropship fee changes in merchant emails; do not use those screenshots as your 2026 price. Pull the live exhibit from Supplier Hub.
Value is Pro + store traffic that Amazon cannot fully copy. Cost is a slow yes, a real no, and retail-grade compliance. If you need revenue this month, this is the wrong queue.
Community feedback
Public 3P-style seller forums barely exist because the channel is vendor. Supplier blogs and SPS / EDI vendors talk about routing guides, chargebacks, and item-data quality. r/HomeDepot is associates and customers, not a seller board. 雨果网 and similar Chinese outlets discuss dropship cohorts, slower reviews, and system migrations — useful as warnings to verify, not as official policy. No single star rating.
Competitive positioning
Home Depot is the default U.S. home-improvement shelf. Lowe’s is the other big box (not in this catalog). Wayfair is home dropship without the orange store. Walmart and Amazon take some tools and décor but do not replace a Pro desk. If your product is a contractor staple, Home Depot is the account; if it is a living-room sofa, look at Wayfair first.
Alternatives
- Wayfair: home dropship / CastleGate without a Home Depot vendor number.
- Walmart: mass 3P and 1P if you need a general U.S. door, not a lumber aisle.
- Amazon: open 3P and FBA while you wait out a 60-day merchant review.
Limitations
Not a self-serve marketplace. 60-day silence is a designed SLA, not a bug. Compliance and insurance knock out many imports. Dropship SLAs are retail, not ePacket. Canada/Mexico are separate. Integrator “3P coming” claims are not an application form. Investor-relations URLs are for shareholders, not buyers — use homedepot.com and Supplier Hub.
Verdict
In 2026, Home Depot is a vendor channel worth the wait if you make jobsite or serious DIY goods and can fulfill like a retailer. It is not a place to paste Amazon listings. Cross-border sellers without North American fulfillment should not apply.
Next step: submit through New Product Submission, or read Becoming a Supplier first. Shop homedepot.com so you know the shelf you are pitching.
Data notes
Rechecked 2026-09-06 against Home Depot About (2,300+ stores), prospective Supplier Hub “Becoming a Supplier” (updated 2026-08-06, 60-day merchant response, non-merch email), and homedepot.com as the consumer homepage (replacing the old IR URL in this catalog). published (2024-03-15), monthlyVisits, domainRating, and authorityScore are catalog placeholders and unverified. Founding is 1978; exact catalog day is unverified. Dropship fee figures circulating in Chinese trade media are unverified against a public Home Depot table.
