Overview

SHOPLINE is a hosted ecommerce SaaS for independent stores. Founded in 2013 in Hong Kong and now headquartered in Singapore, it sells an all-in-one admin: themes, checkout, multi-currency, local payment connectors, and a logistics layer, so a team does not have to assemble a Shopify app stack from scratch. The company says it has served more than 600,000 merchants and runs a team of about 2,000 people, with offices across Singapore, Greater China, Japan, Southeast Asia, the UK, and the US.

For cross-border sellers the product is a storefront layer, not a marketplace. It is aimed at brands that want a DTC site for Japan, Southeast Asia, or Western markets, especially operators who need Chinese-language onboarding and account support. Native localization (SHOPLINE Markets, language packs, regional pricing, local gateways) is the pitch versus a generic Western builder.

It is not a substitute for Amazon, Shopee, or TikTok Shop. Keep marketplace inventory in an ERP, and treat SHOPLINE as catalog, checkout, and pixels. App coverage is narrower than Shopify, so confirm the payment, logistics, tax, and ad integrations you actually need before you migrate.

Core features and advantages

Storefront, themes, and checkout

The hosted store includes themes, a visual page builder, blogs, SSL, and a checkout you can configure without standing up your own servers. Chinese-speaking teams usually find the admin closer to domestic SaaS than Shopify’s English-first layout. That matters when a small ops team is translating product copy, shipping rules, and refund policy at the same time. Theme and checkout depth still trail Shopify’s theme ecosystem; if you need a heavily customized checkout, test a staging theme before you point ads at the domain.

Multi-market language, currency, and pricing

SHOPLINE Markets is the cross-border piece: per-market language, currency display, regional prices, and geolocation redirects from one catalog. Official product pages claim 35+ languages and 150+ display currencies, with rounding and exchange-rate controls. Language packs are not unlimited on every plan — Japan’s public comparison lists a cap on custom translation languages by tier (2 / 7 / 10 / unlimited). Treat machine-translated titles as a draft. Japanese and German product names should be reviewed by a native speaker before you spend on ads.

Payments and logistics connectors

SHOPLINE Payments plus third-party gateways cover cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and a set of regional methods (the global product page cites examples such as Klarna and iDEAL). Transaction fees apply when you do not use SHOPLINE Payments; the China pricing page lists extra third-party rates that vary by plan. OneShip and other logistics connectors handle booking and tracking, which is useful for a first DTC shipment from China, but it is not a full 3PL replacement. Confirm destination duties, HS codes, and carrier coverage for the markets you actually ship to.

Marketing, pixels, and a smaller app store

Native tools cover discounts, abandoned-checkout recovery, customer segments, and ad pixels (including Meta CAPI on higher plans). Enterprise messaging cites 60+ native apps at no extra charge. That is far smaller than Shopify’s public app store. If your stack depends on a specific reviews, subscription, or translation app, search SHOPLINE’s app store first. Weglot and Klaviyo-class tools may still sit beside the store rather than inside it.

Supported platforms

SHOPLINE is the store itself. It is not an Amazon or Shopee seller central. Typical connections:

  • Independent storefront with custom domains and market-specific domains or subfolders
  • Social and live commerce: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LINE, WhatsApp (availability varies by market)
  • Payments: SHOPLINE Payments, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and regional gateways
  • Logistics: OneShip and carrier booking; ERP/OMS via API on higher plans
  • Retail POS as a paid add-on in some regions

Marketplace listings stay on Amazon, Shopee, Lazada, or TikTok Shop. Sync inventory through your ERP rather than treating SHOPLINE as the system of record for every channel.

Who it's for

Solo and small teams leaving a marketplace and wanting a brand URL with Chinese support and a 14-day trial. Starter is enough to test a catalog and a pixel, not to run a complex B2B price list.

Small-to-mid brands selling into Japan, Southeast Asia, or the US/EU from a Chinese or Asian ops team. Markets, local payments, and a dedicated CSM (common in China-facing sales) are the reason to pick it over a cheaper template host.

Enterprise teams that want multi-store, APIs, and a quoted plan. Official Enterprise copy mentions up to 10 online stores and 60+ included apps — still confirm in writing.

Skip it if you already live in Shopify’s app ecosystem, need a highly customized checkout, or only sell on marketplaces and do not need a DTC site.

Concrete use case: a Guangdong 3C brand opening US and Japan DTC. Build the catalog in the Chinese admin, set USD and JPY prices in Markets, connect PayPal plus a card gateway, ship the first 50 orders through OneShip, and fire Meta/Google pixels from the store — while Amazon FBA inventory stays in the ERP.

Pricing and value

Plans are Starter, Essential, Premium, and Enterprise. List prices are regional; always open the page for your billing country.

On the China site (shoplineapp.cn/pricing, checked 2026-08-17): Starter $29/month (2% third-party transaction fee, 5 staff accounts), Essential $79/month (0.8%, 35 staff), Premium $269/month (0.4%, 100 staff), Enterprise custom. Annual billing is advertised at about 17% off (Starter shown around $24/month equivalent). Oceanpay users should read the 2025-08-18 fee note on that page.

On the Japan site (jp.shopline.com/pricing, checked 2026-08-21): Starter ¥4,840/month, Essential ¥13,090/month, Premium ¥44,440/month, Enterprise custom, with annual billing advertised around 16% off. Australia lists AUD prices (Starter AUD$49/month on the AU page).

All public pages offer a 14-day free trial. Extra costs that catch teams: transaction fees if you skip SHOPLINE Payments, paid language packs, POS, and apps such as Multichannel Connect. Do not budget from a blog that quotes only one region.

Community feedback

Chinese seller media (雨果网-style Shopify vs SHOPLINE roundups, 大数跨境) usually agree on the same split: SHOPLINE is easier for Chinese ops, with local payments and training; Shopify wins on apps, checkout polish, and Western documentation. Public English Reddit discussion is thin (r/ShoplinePlatform exists but is not a large seller forum). Do not treat vendor-authored “90-day migration” posts as independent evidence.

Common complaints from comparison pieces, not fabricated quotes: fewer apps than Shopify, less battle-tested EU/US checkout guidance, and region-specific fees that are easy to miss. Positive signal is consistent Chinese CSM and onboarding, which is the main reason mainland teams stay.

Competitive positioning

Shopify is the default Western independent-store platform: larger app store, more public playbooks, stronger mindshare with US/EU agencies. SHOPLINE competes on Chinese admin, bundled payments/logistics, and a lower need to buy five apps on day one.

Shoplazza and other China-origin builders occupy a similar “Shopify for Chinese sellers” slot; compare app lists and payment entities, not slogans. Amazon is not a store builder — it is the marketplace you may still need for demand. A SHOPLINE site does not replace FBA; it is a brand URL and checkout beside it.

Alternatives

  • Weglot: translation layer if you already have a Shopify or other store and only need languages, not a new platform.
  • Klaviyo: email and SMS after the store is live; it is not a storefront.
  • Amazon: marketplace demand and FBA, not a replacement for a DTC checkout.

Limitations

App coverage is the structural limit. Checkout and theme customization trail Shopify for teams with developers. Pricing, transaction fees, and staff-account caps differ by country, so a quote from a China AE will not match a Japan or Australia invoice. Some language packs are paid. SHOPLINE does not translate marketplace listings. Support quality for purely English-speaking teams is less documented than for Chinese-speaking merchants.

Verdict

Use SHOPLINE if you are an Asian-ops team launching or relocating a DTC store and you want markets, payments, and logistics in one admin with Chinese support. Use Shopify (or stay on a marketplace only) if the app you cannot live without is missing, or if your agency already runs a Shopify stack.

Next step: start the 14-day trial on the regional site you will actually be billed on, connect one payment method and one shipping rule, and validate tax, language, and pixels on a staging theme before you buy traffic.
